Mechanical Ventilation Testing

Ensure that your ventilation systems are meeting all the proper code requirements and maintaining fresh and clean in-home air.

Colorado energy codes are stricter than ever. Modern homes are required to have a high level of airtightness, which means that ventilation systems have become an important way to circulate fresh air throughout the living space. But just because a ventilation system has the the capacity to pull a certain amount of air through the home, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is actually doing so. And that is why it must be tested.

According to section R403.6.3 in the IECC 2021, “mechanical ventilation systems shall be tested and verified to provide the minimum ventilation flow rates.” This means that for any municipality that has adopted the IECC 2021, an approved third party must be hired to test the ventilation systems on newly built homes or add-ons. At Scott Home Services, we are excited to announce that we have now added Mechanical Ventilation Testing to our extensive list of energy services!

What To Expect during the Mechanical Ventilation Testing

Our energy specialists utilize a specialized device, called a flow box. This device is placed over an inlet terminal of a ventilation system, such as a bath fan. Using a manometer, the energy specialist will then read the amount of pressure being generated at the terminal to verify that it meets IECC 2021 requirements.

Upon completion of a Mechanical Ventilation Test, we will send you a letter of certification that a 3rd party inspector has verified the system. We will also keep photos on hand for any future verification needed.
