Air Barrier Inspection:

A building envelope performance verification or an air barrier inspection is a recent adoptable amendment to the 2021 IECC building codes. The inspection requires a certified professional view the air barrier prior to siding installation to ensure the house wrap and other items providing a continuous air barrier to a home are installed well and all air leaks are minimized where possible before things get covered up. An air barrier inspection does not require you to use specific products or wraps, but it takes all of these products into account to ensure the air building envelope is as tight as it can be.

Air Barrier Inspections are visual inspections. The same techs who perform our Blower Door Tests perform our air barrier inspections so they are familiar with common air leaks through building envelopes. We will be looking at all penetrations through the envelope, and all known weak areas.

What is inspected during a Building Envelope Performance Inspection:

• HVAC Register Boots
• Concealed Sprinklers

Upon completion of an air barrier inspection, we will send you a letter of certification that a 3rd party inspector verified the insulation levels. We will also keep photos on hand for any future verification needed.
